Ava splashes into F O U R ! I realllly tried to convince my oldest, Ava, that she wanted a TSwift birthday party, but she was adamant about a mermaid party! It's fineeee. No really, it is :) We had a blast!
I loved the spin on the traditional mermaid colors with a touch of *glam*. I think I inflated over 600 balloons for this party! WHOA, but WORTH IT! I installed the balloons on the backdrop, hanging over the kids table, above a sitting area near the bounce house, and hung strands of balloons to emulate seaweed!
For the backdrop, I used the 7ft gold arch and the 5ft gold half moon stand. I had a fitted arch cover for the 7ft arch and draped a sequin table cloth over the 5ft half moon arch. I printed 'under the sea' images, adhered them to insulation board, and cut them out to add to the backdrop and dessert table. The oyster shell is just a pool floatie that I customized to say AVA!
I used two of the 4ft bifold tables at the lowest height for the kids table. We laid carpet protection tape around the table where frosting might drop! For favors, I customized shell cups with each guest's name (not well pictured; need to work on photographing my work!!) and put together a favor bag with a bracelet, necklace, temporary tattoos, and a wand!
For entertainment, we had our bounce house with ball pit, the playroom, 'pin the tail on the mermaid', and a real life mermaid!
For our unique element, we had a 'mermaid sugar' (cotton candy) machine and our real life mermaid who had a 'salty air & mermaid hair' station where guests could add hair tinsel to their beautiful locks!
We also had an ice cream station with fun toppings like cookie dough, hot fudge, whipped topping, fruit, peanuts and of course, mermaid sprinkles! We served this along with cupcakes and macarons.
I made acrylic signage for each of the stations. You can see in the pictures that my girlies love to help decorate, too. Except this time it was with crayon..on the wall. This is real life, folks! No telling if I got it scrubbed off in time for the party or if I just strategically placed some seaweed there. For the seaweed, I just twisted some green crepe streamers in varying heights and secured around the walls with tape!
Ava's birthdays are always a little stressful because it is smack dab in the middle of January and if you know anything about the midwest, the weather can really complicate plans! My amazing sister in law, Jillian, and my sweet niece, Palmer, intended on flying in from Boise to help us celebrate, but Mother Nature (and the airline) had other plans. All of our local friends were able to make it, but we sure missed our out of state fam! Don't worry, we made up for it when we flew to Boise for Palmer's TSWIFT PARTY in April!!
